The following letter is from Betsy Warren, Sponsorship Coordinator from Habitat for Humanity. For many years, the Asheville Jewish Community has participated in the building of Interfaith Homes. We are proud to acknowledge the help of individuals from Congregation Beth Israel and Congregation Beth HaTephila who were part of this year’s build.
Dear Friends and Supporters of Habitat’s 16th Interfaith House,
Have you visited the Hudson Hills job site lately, where the 16th Interfaith House is rapidly approaching completion? The entire neighborhood is abuzz with activity: four homes have closed and families are settling in; two more will close this spring; and several others are in various stages of construction.
Earlier this month we drove out to the job site to take some photographs of houses underway. There on the front porch of her future home was your Partner Family, Esmeralda Guzman, hard at work with a paintbrush in her hand and grinning ear-to-ear.
Esmeralda has a lot to grin about: she has nearly finished her 200 hours of Sweat Equity, and is looking forward to closing on her new home very soon.
We plan to celebrate the completion of the Interfaith House and 3 other Habitat homes at a neighborhood “block party” in the early summer — stay tuned for more information!
In the meantime, thank you, Interfaith congregations, for your faithful partnership with Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity. You are helping Esmeralda create a strong, secure future in a vibrant community.
Betsy
